Ochre Day was established in 2012 by NACCHO, to provide a strategic focus on male health issues that will assist with the development of an overarching gender and culture specific approach to primary healthcare. It is a national event that is held in a different jurisdiction each year. To date the event has been held in Canberra in 2013, Brisbane in 2014, Adelaide in 2015 Perth in 2016, Darwin in 2017, Hobart in 2018 and Melbourne in 2019.

An Advisory Group with national representatives is established each year to inform the focus areas for the conference, as well as suggest speakers, highlight areas of good practice and what worked well in previous years. The Advisory Group meets regularly, and input from Advisory Group members is collated and submitted as recommendations for the program.
