- Position Title: Coordinator – Elder Care Support
- Duration: Full-time, Fixed term until 30 June 2026
- Base Salary: $102,795 – $110,496 p.a. as per Classification Admin 6.1-6.4
This position is identified for an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and is intended to constitute a special measure under section 8 (1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth), and section 57 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1996 (NT).
WHO ARE WE?
Established in 1991, Danila Dilba Health Service (DDHS) is an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation committed to providing culturally appropriate, comprehensive primary health care services and community development within the Biluru (Aboriginal) community of the Yilli Rreung (Greater Darwin) Region in the Northern Territory.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Coordinator – Elder Care Support plays a key role in enhancing the delivery of aged care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders across the Darwin Region. This position leads a small team in supporting Elders, their families, and carers to navigate the aged care system, access appropriate services, and participate in culturally safe, trauma-informed care planning. The role contributes to the design and implementation of practical supports that enable Elders to live independently and meaningfully at home. It also builds staff capability through education and coordination of aged care initiatives, while strengthening awareness of available services and promoting best practice across DDHS teams.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Participate in workforce planning, recruitment, and ongoing professional development of support workers, ensuring the team is skilled, culturally competent, and meets the needs of elders.
- Monitor staff productivity and service delivery outputs against rostered hours and allocated budgets, ensuring efficient use of resources and alignment with funding requirements and organisational targets.
- Provide leadership and oversight of the Elder Care Support team ensuring culturally safe, trauma-aware, and healing-informed practices that meet the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander elders.
- Provide mentoring, guidance, and performance feedback to staff.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and induction of new staff.
- Foster a collaborative and positive team culture.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential
- Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.
- Demonstrated sound knowledge of aged care sector, systems, programs, access and assessment processes.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, using inclusive and culturally appropriate approaches with an understanding of the impact of colonisation on Indigenous wellbeing.
- Experience working in aged care sector or similar sectors such as disability.
- Experience leading a high-performing team with a positive team culture in a service delivery setting.
- Excellent administrative and organisational skills including experience managing workloads within a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Desirable
- Qualifications in Aged care
- Experience in working in an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service.
- Experience managing relationships with funding bodies including state and Federal Government.
- Demonstrated experience and competency in working with Communicare.

- Ability and willingness to obtain a Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card).

- Current CPR certificate or the preparedness to gain one within 6 months of commencement.
