Shaping the future of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and wellbeing

NACCHO members

NACCHO comprises 146 members that operate Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs) in urban, regional, and remote Australia. They range from large multi-functional services employing several medical practitioners, to small services which rely on Aboriginal Health Workers and/or nurses to provide the bulk of primary care services, often with a preventive, health education focus.

NACCHO Affiliates

NACCHO collaborates with eight Affiliates that represent each state and territory across Australia. Our Affiliates encompass a diverse range of Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs), from large facilities staffed by multiple healthcare professionals offering comprehensive services, to smaller centres where dedicated Aboriginal Health Workers and nurses provide primary care. Each centre emphasises preventive care and health education tailored to the community’s needs.

Each Affiliate plays a crucial role in supporting ACCHOs within their jurisdiction, offering guidance and practical advice on various aspects, including organisational governance, continuous quality improvement (CQI) accreditation, program implementation, and work health and safety. They facilitate partnerships among ACCHOs to enhance knowledge sharing and strategic planning at the state and territory level, leading the way in the implementation of national policies.

NACCHO membership requirements

To qualify for NACCHO membership, an organisation must be:

How to become a NACCHO member:

  • ACCHOs must first become members of their respective state Affiliate.
  • The state Affiliate will assess whether the new ACCHO meets the NACCHO membership criteria and will recommend membership to the NACCHO Board.
  • The NACCHO Board will then approve the membership.
