Position Title: Senior Aged Care Engagement Officer

Duration: Full-time, Fixed term until 30/06/2026

Base Salary: $80,269 – $87,712

This position is identified for an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and is intended to constitute a special measure under section 8 (1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth), and section 57 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1996 (NT).

WHO ARE WE?

Established in 1991, Danila Dilba Health Service (DDHS) is an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation committed to providing culturally appropriate, comprehensive primary health care services and community development within the Biluru (Aboriginal) community of the Yilli Rreung (Greater Darwin) Region in the Northern Territory.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Senior Aged Care Engagement Officer plays a pivotal role in supporting the delivery of culturally safe aged care services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders in the Yilli Rreung region. This position bridges frontline engagement and program coordination, providing mentorship and guidance to Aged Care Engagement Officers while supporting the Coordinator Elder Care Support in program delivery and continuous improvement. The role focuses on enhancing service access, quality, and cultural safety by supporting Elders through aged care pathways, strengthening community relationships, and contributing to workforce development. It also ensures that engagement officers are well-supported, informed, and aligned with DDHS values and strategic goals.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Provide direct support to Elders navigating aged care pathways, including My Aged Care registration, assessment, and service selection.
  • Assist in complex cases requiring higher-level advocacy or coordination.
  • Support consumers through the aged care assessment process and support plan development.
  • Guide consumers and families in selecting aged care providers and understanding of contractual and funding arrangements.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of aged care services, funding arrangements, and referral pathways.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential

  • Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.
  • Strong relationships with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting older people in aged care or community settings.
  • Proven ability to mentor or guide others in a team environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Desirable

  • Qualifications in Aged Care, Community Services, or related field.
  • Experience in an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed and person-centred care principles.
  • Effective administrative and organisational skills including experience managing workloads within a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

  • Ability and willingness to obtain a Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card).

  • Current CPR certificate or the preparedness to gain one within 6 months of commencement.
