  • Provide operational leadership to the Poche Centre for Indigenous Health to support the Faculty of Medicine and Health’s strategic research agenda
  • Work closely with First Nations people and communities to manage the planning and policy for the Centre
  • Full time continuing position with a Base Salary between $135,820– $143,310 + 17% superannuation

As such, we are in a period of exciting and significant investment in our Faculty of Medicine and Health and in order to deliver on the University’s ambitious strategic plan, we are seeking an Operations Manager, Poche Centre for Indigenous Health to provide operational leadership for the Centre, to meet its core objectives whilst supporting the Centre and Faculty’s strategic research agenda.


Note: This position is located at our Camperdown Campus, but there will be flexibility required for the position to visit and work across all Precincts in the Faculty.

Your key responsibilities will be to:


  • utilise your considerable experience, business acumen and problem-solving expertise to make decisions and recommendations on broad and complex issues which impact on the operations of the Poche Centre
  • develop strategies for the management of change that support the implementation of key initiatives which may have an impact on people and other resourcing requirements of the Centre
  • establish systems, procedures, and processes to enable the operational activities of the Centre to be carried out effectively and efficiently, including developing and providing sound support for the research activities being undertaken
  • build and maintain effective working relationships with key external stakeholders, including First Nations service providers and communities, funding agencies (e.g., ARC, NHMRC), government departments (e.g., LHDs), peak bodies, and university representative groups (e.g., Go8, UA) enabling the University to influence policies, processes and systems that impact on the research performance and service delivery capabilities of the portfolio.


About you


  • experience working in partnership with First Nations communities
  • experience working on multiple projects and adapting to changes in line with overall strategy
  • possess knowledge of Indigenous culture and history, and its impact on and implications for Indigenous health issues and outcomes
  • excellent communication skills and the ability to liaise effectively with all levels of staff, students, management, and external stakeholders
  • strong interpersonal and relationship building skills, and a proven track record managing a diverse group of internal/external stakeholders.

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
