Keep Yarrie Safe: Immunisation Campaign Launch

Gurriny Yealamucka Health Services has launched the Keep Yarrie Safe Immunisation Campaign in Yarrabah. The campaign features Community Immunisation Champions and local staff sharing personal stories about why immunisation matters to them and their families.

Vaccination rates are declining across the world. This makes the campaign’s timing important, and Yarrabah’s own history makes the case clearly.

During the 2022 COVID outbreak, Yarrabah stood out for all the right reasons. The community achieved COVID vaccination rates above 90 per cent, including booster doses. That collective effort protected lives.

High immunisation rates protect everyone in the community. They protect you, your family, your Elders, and those whose health conditions put them at greatest risk from preventable diseases. Measles, flu, whooping cough, and RSV are now more common, and those with underlying health issues face the most serious consequences.

The science is straightforward. Vaccines teach your immune system to produce antibodies before you’re exposed to a disease. Even if you do catch something, your body responds faster, and the illness is less severe.
