AMSANT and NT Health have co-launched the Northern Territory Syphilis Action Plan 2025–2030. The plan provides a coordinated framework for the next phase of the Northern Territory’s response to the ongoing syphilis outbreak with a focus on:
• Increasing testing and early detection
• Strengthening treatment and follow-up pathways
• Building workforce capability
• Improving coordination across services
• Delivering culturally safe, community-led care
• Working towards the elimination of congenital syphilis
The launch reflects a public commitment to reducing transmission and improving health outcomes across the Territory. It also recognises the significant contribution of the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health sector, which has played a leading role in the outbreak response for more than a decade through community engagement, testing, treatment and follow-up care.
AMSANT welcomes the Plan’s emphasis on partnership and shared decision-making and will continue to advocate for the sustained investment, accountability and Aboriginal leadership needed to achieve its goals.
Syphilis is preventable. Congenital syphilis is preventable. Achieving elimination will require coordinated action across the health system to ensure timely access to testing, treatment and culturally safe care for all Territorians.
