Public Health Medicine Registrar position in northern NSW Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations

Bulgarr Ngaru Medical Aboriginal Corporation (BNMAC), Bullinah Aboriginal Health Service and (BAHS) and Rekindling the Spirit Health Service (RTSHS) are Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHO) in northern NSW. They have for several years been working closely and sharing resources on a regional, collaborative approach to common health service and public health issues.

BNMAC is seeking applicants for a public health medicine registrar training position, which, while being a BNMAC position, will provide support to all three of the ACCHOs in northern NSW. The position will be based in northern NSW, but the exact location can be negotiated. The position is accredited for training by the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine (AFPHM) and will be formally supervised by the CEO of BNMAC and an AFPHM Fellow. They will participate in a range of activities at the interface of Aboriginal primary health care (PHC) and public health medicine including, but not limited to, Clinical Quality Improvement, Education and Training for PHC clinicians, development and evaluation of PHC service programs, health service policy development, data analysis and reporting, research activities, population health promotion, interacting with NSW Health and other agencies on services, programs and policies relevant to ACCHO clients and providing public health advice and expertise to health service management and clinical leaders.

While the principal focus of this position is public health and health service program delivery, it will be highly desirable – although not essential – if the applicant is able to provide some clinical care within the current limit of 30% of time permitted in the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine (AFPHM) training scheme. The importance of having practical experience of PHC delivery in the ACCHO setting is highly valuable in understanding the client group and service delivery issues, as well as having credibility with the workforce.

Salary and Benefits

• Remuneration: Base salary aligned with the Public Hospital Medical Officers (State) Award 2025. Depending on the year of training, the base salary ranges from $120,400 to $151,000+ per annum. Further increments may be possible for candidates with existing relevant qualifications.
• Salary Packaging: As a Public Benefit Institution (PBI), BNMAC offers significant salary packaging benefits (up to $15,900 for living expenses and $2,650 for meal/entertainment).
• Professional Development: Generous support for professional development and training activities including course fees, travel and accommodation for approved events.
• Superannuation: 12% in addition to base salary.
