Tullawon Health Service is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Remote Area Nurse (RAN) to join our team in the remote Aboriginal community of Yalata, South Australia.

Salary & Benefits

Total Potential Earnings: $152,000 – $160,000 per annum*

(*inclusive of salary, allowances and Remote Travel Allowance)

In addition, you’ll enjoy a comprehensive range of benefits:

  • Competitive salary package of $145,000 – $152,500 including applicable allowances.
  • Additional Work/On-Call Allowance of approximately $30,000 per annum for participation in after-hours on-call and call-out duties.
  • Remote Travel Allowance of $7,500 per annum paid fortnightly.
  • Salary Packaging options of up to approximately $16,000 per year, helping you maximise your take-home pay.
  • Fully furnished staff accommodation provided, with heavily subsidised utilities (nominal contribution of $30 per bedroom per fortnight).
  • Unique work-life balance roster with a 6-week continuous service cycle followed by 2 weeks paid program leave (in addition to other leave entitlements).
  • 4 weeks annual leave plus annual leave loading.
  • 8 weeks paid parental leave (available after 12 months of service).
  • Flexible 1 or 2-year fixed-term contracts with extension opportunities.
  • Relocation assistance of up to $1,500.
  • Standard employer superannuation contributions.
  • Additional 1% employer superannuation contribution for non-smokers (conditions apply).

About the Role

As a Remote Area Nurse, you will provide frontline healthcare services to residents of Yalata and surrounding areas where access to healthcare is limited. Working within a small multidisciplinary team, you will deliver a broad range of primary healthcare services, emergency care, health promotion activities, and chronic disease management.

This position requires a nurse who is confident working autonomously, adaptable in a remote setting, and committed to delivering culturally responsive healthcare to Aboriginal communities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive primary healthcare services, including:
  • Health assessments
  • Immunisations and vaccinations
  • Wound management
  • Chronic disease care
  • Health screenings
  • Respond to medical emergencies, trauma cases, and critical incidents.
  • Promote healthy lifestyles through community education and health promotion programs.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals, patients, families, and community stakeholders.
  • Administer medications and maintain pharmaceutical management systems.
  • Undertake cold chain management procedures for vaccines and temperature-sensitive medications.
  • Support infection prevention and control practices.
  • Coordinate and facilitate medical evacuations when required.
  • Participate in an after-hours on-call roster to ensure ongoing healthcare coverage.

Essential Requirements

To be considered for this position, applicants must:

  • Hold current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse.
  • Hold a Bachelor of Nursing, Bachelor of Science (Nursing), or Bachelor of Nursing Science.
  • Hold a current Remote Emergency Care (REC) qualification (or equivalent).
  • Hold a current Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification.
  • Possess a current Australian Driver’s Licence and be able to drive a manual vehicle.
  • Hold or obtain a Working with Children Check.
  • Successfully complete a National Police Clearance.
  • Be willing to relocate and reside in Yalata, South Australia.
  • Be available to participate in an after-hours on-call roster.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Experience in remote, rural, emergency, primary healthcare, or Aboriginal health settings.
  • Experience with cannulation and suturing.
  • Knowledge of Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) requirements, including Schedule 4 and Schedule 8 medications.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Strong clinical assessment and problem-solving abilities.
  • Commitment to providing culturally safe and respectful healthcare.
  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.
  • Positive attitude, resilience, and a strong team focus.
