Mala’la Health Service’s New Public Health Centre Official Opening

Yesterday marked the official opening of Mala’la Health Service’s new Public Health Centre in Maningrida.

Mala’la Health Service wrote on social media:

This expansion represents a significant investment in community-controlled healthcare and will help improve access to primary healthcare for people living in Maningrida and surrounding homelands.

As one of the busiest remote health services in the Northern Territory, Mala’la Health Service recorded almost 84,000 client contacts in 2025.

The new facility provides additional consulting rooms, a dedicated rheumatic heart disease clinic, training spaces and improved infrastructure to support both patients and staff.

The centre will strengthen our capacity to deliver programs addressing conditions such as rheumatic heart disease, tuberculosis and cancer, while supporting integrated team care and visiting specialist services.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the opening including community members, staff, board members, partners and government and health organisation representatives. It was wonderful to share this milestone together and showcase what community-controlled healthcare can achieve.

A special thank you to the Australian Government, NACCHO and the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing for supporting this important project through the Indigenous Australians’ Health Programme – Closing the Gap – Major Capital Works Program.
