More than 110 members of the Aboriginal Community Controlled cancer workforce came together on Ngunnawal and Ngambri Country in Canberra from 29–30 April for the inaugural NACCHO Cancer Program Workforce Community of Practice.
The gathering brought together Cancer Liaison Officers, Health Promotion Officers, Cancer Support Officers and other ACCHO staff from across the country to strengthen connections, share knowledge and build a strong foundation for ongoing collaboration.
Across the two days, participants explored their workforce roles, training and development, health promotion resources, national cancer screening programs, cancer indicators and data, and joined a fireside chat on bowel cancer screening initiatives.
A big thank you to Broome Regional Aboriginal Medical Service, Durri ACMS, TAIHS and Sunrise Health Service Aboriginal Corporation for sharing their experiences and community-led approaches to cancer program delivery.
Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to this important national conversation for the ACCHO cancer workforce. The NACCHO Cancer Program works with members, affiliates and other key stakeholders to improve cancer-related health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
