Partnerships

NACCHO partners with organisations that have an interest in and commitment to developing and maintaining culturally appropriate health care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Australian Healthcare & Hospitals Association (AHHA)

The partnership between NACCHO and the AHHA leverages the strengths of both organizations to bridge the health disparities between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians and other Australians. The collaboration focuses on developing new solutions through joint policies, research, and public health initiatives aimed at closing the gap and addressing health concerns in Indigenous communities. In December 2015, the chairpersons of NACCHO and AHHA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support policy creation, advocacy, communication, and joint planning efforts, and the partnership remains productive and positive.

Vision 2020 Australia

NACCHO’s collaboration with Vision 2020 Australia bolsters the National Spectacle Subsidy Scheme (NSSS) project by offering governance and relevant tasks. NACCHO is part of the steering group, participates in consultations with jurisdictions, and provides insight to Vision 2020 Australia on issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with regards to subsidised spectacles.

Council of Presidents of Medical Colleges

The Council of Presidents of Medical Colleges is dedicated to collaborating with NACCHO and the Australian Government to narrow the disparity in health outcomes and life expectancy between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals and the rest of the Australian population. NACCHO remains actively engaged with Federal Health Ministers and the 15 Medical Colleges after signing a partnership agreement in 2017 with the NACCHO Chair.

Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF)

The goal of the Memorandum of Understanding with the Royal Australian Air Force is to provide continuous, cost-effective, and accessible healthcare to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. This collaboration enables RAAF dental personnel to collaborate with Aboriginal Health Workers in ACCHOs, reducing wait times for indigenous health services and increasing access to care for more Aboriginal individuals.

End Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) Coalition

The END RHD coalition aims to eradicate rheumatic heart disease in Australia. In 2020, a national Endgame strategy and report were unveiled. The founding members of the coalition include the Aboriginal Medical Services Alliance Northern Territory (AMSANT), the Aboriginal Health Council of Western Australia (AHCWA), the Australian Medical Association (AMA) Heart Foundation, the Menzies School of Health Research, the Telethon Kids Institute, and NACCHO.

Pharmacy Guild of Australia

The Memorandum of Understanding is a commitment to enhancing the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. It is a agreement to collaborate with its members, exchange information of mutual concern, and formulate media statements and policies. The agreement acknowledges NACCHO as the leading health policy advisory organisation for ACCHOs and recognises community pharmacists as the leading providers of pharmacy services in the sector.

Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP)

NACCHO and the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners are working in partnership to advocate for the adequate resource allocation of the Australian healthcare system to enable all healthcare providers to deliver culturally and clinically appropriate care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations. Jointly, we create standards, guidelines, funding models, and resources to empower general practitioners, healthcare professionals, and ACCHOs to optimise health outcomes for the community. NACCHO and RACGP will also develop programs to attract and retain a competent workforce for the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health sector.

James Cook University and Pharmaceutical Society of Australia

NACCHO, James Cook University, and the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia are working together to incorporate pharmacists into ACCHOs. This collaboration provides a platform to gather bio-statistical data through Community Based Participatory Research, enhancing access to medicines for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Equitable participation from community members, organisational representatives, and researchers will formulate a framework for implementation.
