Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre: National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day

To mark National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day, the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre wrote on social media:

Today, on National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day, we celebrate our Palawa children and the future of Lutruwita they will help shape.

This year’s theme, Living Our Truth, reminds us that our pakata grow strong when they know who they are, where they come from, and the truth, knowledge and culture carried by our Elders in song and story across generations. Truth-telling helps ensure our children grow up with a strong sense of culture, identity, belonging and pride.

Palawa people have raised children through Country, culture, family and community over generations, our ways of knowing continue to guide and strengthen each new generation.

Today, we honour ningi, fathers, Elders, carers and community members who nurture our children every day, sharing knowledge, strengthening identity, and ensuring our pakata grow up connected to culture, Country and community.
At the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre, we are proud to stand alongside our children and families, celebrating culture, and creating opportunities for every child to grow up healthy, thrive, within community.

Happy National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day.
